VICTORIAN dairy farmers have abandoned their long-standing opposition to genetically modified feeds.
At the United Dairyfarmers of Victoria annual conference in Melbourne yesterday, delegates overwhelmingly backed a policy giving farmers the right to choose GM technology.
The vote to support a pro-choice stance, already adopted by the Australian Dairy Industry Council, could be pivotal in ending the Victorian Government's GM moratorium because the UDV's previous stance against the technology was a key factor in the decision to impose the ban in 2004.
