Cargill 3Q profit jumps 49 percent

Meating place has announced Minneapolis-based Cargill Inc. reported higher profit on Monday as earnings rose in its several segments.
The item says the private agribusiness firm said it earned $553 million in the quarter ended Feb. 28, up 49 percent from $370 million in the same period last year.
"The intersection we are seeing between global agriculture and energy is creating new demand as well as new challenges for all of us in agribusiness," Cargill Chairman and CEO Warren Staley said.
